Placement matters as much as the fan. Mount it high, aim it down and across your primary work zone, and keep the path clear. A fan blowing into a wall of storage bins does nothing.
Get the hot air out (ventilation)
A fan cools you. Ventilation cools the room. Hot air rises and pools at the ceiling, so your job is to give it an exit and pull cooler air in behind it.
The simplest version: open the garage door a foot or two at the bottom and crack a window or side door on the opposite wall. That creates a cross-breeze. Now add a fan to force it. Cut the heat at the source
